BLASTOCYST CULTURE

BLASTOCYST CULTURE

In blastocyst culture, a more advanced assisted reproduction technology—in vitro fertilization (IVF) technique—embryos are grown to the blastocyst stage prior to being transferred into the uterus. This stage is approximately five to six days after fertilization and the subsequent period of development when the embryo is formed further and ready for implantation. Growing embryos in the laboratory up to the blastocyst stage allows for the selection of embryos with high potential for implantation. It helps in identifying those that have the best chance of forming a pregnancy. This method can enhance the success rate for IVF since, at this period of development, the embryo is most likely to form a healthy pregnancy. This reduces the number of embryos transferred, minimizing the risk of multiple pregnancies.
