ECTOPIC PREGNANCY

ECTOPIC PREGNANCY

An ectopic pregnancy is one where the fertilized egg implants and grows outside of the uterus, most commonly in the fallopian tubes. This can develop into a very serious complication, including the potential rupture of tubes and internal bleeding, which may be fatal to the mother. Possible symptoms include abdominal pain, irregular bleeding, and dizziness. Since early diagnosis is important, this is often done through ultrasonography or blood tests. In more severe cases, this could involve medication to dissolve the ectopic tissue or even surgical intervention for its removal, depending on the severity and location. Early treatment prevents complications and conserves future fertility. Follow-up care ensures recovery and begets any long-term concerns.
