HYSTEROSCOPIC SUBMUCOSAL MYOMA RESECTION

HYSTEROSCOPIC SUBMUCOSAL MYOMA RESECTION

Hysteroscopic submucosal resection is a specially adapted practice for removing submucosal fibroids. These are those fibroids growing just beneath the uterine lining. It is a minimally invasive method using a hysteroscope, a thin, flexible tube equipped with a camera that is inserted via the vagina and the cervix into the uterus. The hysteroscope allows looking inside the uterus and, using specialized instruments, provides the surgeon with the ability to resect the fibroids as required and remove them. The procedure treats heavy menstrual bleeding, pelvic pain, and infertility but retains the uterine lining. Among others, the advantages of hysteroscopic submucosal resection over traditional open surgery usually include less time in recovery and minimal scarring, as well as good overall outcome expectations.
