Polypectomy is a surgical technique to remove polyps from the uterine lining or other parts of the body, such as the colon. Uterine polypectomy is normally performed by inserting a very tiny flexible tube, called a hysteroscope, via the vagina, cervix, and into the uterus. This gives an evident view of the inside area and thus allows for the removal of polyps, which could be the reason for abnormal bleeding, pain, or infertility. The procedure is relatively minimally invasive and usually done in an outpatient setting with a quick recovery time. Removal of polyps can help alleviate symptoms and improve uterine health, improving the chances of a successful pregnancy if fertility is a concern.
