OVUM DONATION

Ovum donation, also referred to as egg donation, is the process in which a donor donates ova that help an individual or couple to conceive in case they cannot use their ova. This starts with ovarian stimulation and retrieval of viable eggs from the donor. The retrieved eggs are then fertilized with sperm from the recipient or a donor in the laboratory. Transfer of the resulting embryos into the uterus of the recipient then follows. Ovum donation is usually resorted to in cases of premature ovarian failure, genetic abnormalities, and advanced age. It is one such prospective and hopeful solution to achieve pregnancy, giving hope and new life to the childless heart of an infertile.
