Breast augmentation is the type of cosmetic surgery that is needed to enhance the size and alter the shape of breasts using implants or fat transfer. Many people are able to have more full and balanced breasts—for example, people concerned with asymmetry, volume loss, or the small size of their natural breasts. Either silicone or saline implants are inserted, or fat is transferred from other areas into the breasts in this procedure. It is generally performed under general anesthesia, and the incisions may be in places that will ultimately result in as little visible scarring as possible.
