Embryo biopsy is used in association with in vitro fertilization to gain insight into the genetic health of embryos prior to implantation. Typically, a few cells are carefully removed from an embryo at its blastocyst stage, which is around day 5 or 6 of development. These cells are then analyzed for chromosomal abnormalities or specific genetic conditions through techniques like PGT. These results aid in the identification of embryos that can have the best chances of implantation, leading to a healthy pregnancy and reducing the risk of genetic disorders within them. Embryo biopsy enhances the chance of success with an IVF outcome and facilitates informed decisions related to embryo transfer.
