Surrogacy is an agreement by which the surrogate mother carries a pregnancy and gives birth to a baby for another person or couple. There are two basic kinds of surrogacy: traditional surrogacy and gestational surrogacy. In the former, the surrogate's eggs are used; in the latter case, embryos made through IVF are put inside the surrogate's uterus. Many people turn to surrogacy because of infertility issues, medical conditions, or other problems that might not allow them to carry a pregnancy. It involves legal contracts, medical checkups, and even emotional support for everyone concerned. Surrogacy offers a way to become a parent and gives hope and completion to the people who cannot get pregnant by themselves.
