Laparoscopic myomectomy is a minimally invasive surgical technique for the removal of uterine fibroids while at the same time preserving the uterus. Small incisions are made in the abdomen, and then small instruments together with a laparoscope are inserted into the site to be worked on for fibroid removal. It has several benefits, which include less post-operative pain, very minimal scarring, and reduced recovery time compared to the traditional open myomectomy. In cases of uterine fibroids that are complicated by bleeding or pelvic pain, laparoscopic myomectomy is usually indicated. Preservation of the uterus by this procedure offers a chance for fertility in the future and improves quality of life.
